Global Chief Communications Officer
Niel Golightly was appointed Global Chief Communications Officer and named a member of the Group Executive Council (GEC) on December 6, 2018.
Prior to joining Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., Mr. Golightly served with Shell Oil Company as Vice President for External Relations in the Americas. In that role, he was responsible for developing and leading the implementation of reputation, brand and stakeholder engagement strategies for all of Shell’s business lines in North and South America. Before that, he served as global Vice President, Communications and Sustainable Development for Royal Dutch Shell’s worldwide Downstream businesses, based in London, England.
Mr. Golightly also served a stint as Shell’s Vice President, U.S. Energy Transition, responsible for developing and communicating long-term scenarios relating to the U.S. energy market. At the request of Houston’s mayor, he helped lead the city’s recovery from the multi-billion-dollar impact of Hurricane Harvey as a loaned executive from Shell.
Mr. Golightly joined Shell after a 13-year career at Ford Motor Company, where his positions included Vice President, Public Affairs for Ford of Europe; Director, Sustainable Business Strategies; and Director of the Chairman’s Office.
Before joining Ford, he served on active duty with the U.S. Navy, first as a fighter pilot then as a Pentagon speechwriter for the Secretary of the Navy and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Mr. Golightly received a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Cornell University and later studied at the University of Konstanz in Germany as a Navy Olmsted Scholar.
He was born in Fairfax (Virginia, USA).
