FCA's innovation process
promotes collaboration and
opportunities for exchange with external partners and stakeholders through a variety of initiatives and tools.
The Group’s commitment to research has resulted in a substantial portfolio of intellectual property, with
more than 8,000 patents granted to Group companies.
Mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures enable FCA to benefit from synergies and foster innovation.
The Group also always encourages creativity
among its members—at every level and in every organizational function.
Important inspiration for innovation comes from interaction with
customers, who are involved right from the product concept phase to
participation in virtual networks, and from contributions from
suppliers, public and private institutions, and
research centers and universities.
In fact, FCA has long been working with universities and research centers through participation in research groups and common projects. These close ties with the academic world, kept both by the Group and by the individual companies, are instrumental in encouraging creative thinking and rewarding talent in young people. In Europe, the company also has been active for many years in the support of policy and priority definition related to automotive innovation programs.
Finally, in certain areas of innovation, the Group invests in external firms to complement institutional knowledge with specific expertise not present in the organization.
