The Wrangler rolls off the assembly line in Toledo, Ohio, and arrives in showrooms in January. FCA moved production of the Jeep Cherokee to Belvidere, Illinois, from Toledo earlier this year to clear the way for the redesigned Wrangler. Production of the redesigned Ram pickup truck begins next year in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
These moves aim to keep the company in-step with U.S. consumers who want larger vehicles, while fulfilling financial goals of generating as much as €120 billion in net revenues this year and about €136 billion in 2018.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2-door model will be available in three different trim configurations: Sport, Sport S and Rubicon. The 4-door model is available in Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon. The redesigned Jeep Wrangler is about 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor. Much of the weight loss comes via the use of lighter, high-strength steel in the frame and aluminum for the hood, doors and fender flares.
There are big changes in the interior, including a redesigned center console and push-button starter. Modern touches include a standard 7-inch or optional 8.4-inch touchscreen display and available heated seats and steering wheel. The list of 75 active and passive safety features includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection and the rear-view camera.
“The all-new Wrangler is instantly recognizable as a Jeep, staying true to the original, yet it is better in every way – delivering even more rugged capability, more ride comfort, more fuel efficiency courtesy of several advanced powertrain options, more interior comfort, more safety and more technology.” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. “Jeep has always represented the ultimate in capability and open-air freedom, and our all-new 2018 Wrangler protects that important legacy and takes it into the future.”
In addition to the standard folding windshield, heritage design cues include removable doors for a taste of maximum open-air fun. The four-door version will offer the Sky One-Touch full-length canvas roof that can be opened or closed by pushing a button. The option will be available in the second quarter of 2018. Pricing for the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler pricing will be announced later.
