New 19-inch wheels and LED headlamps are just two examples of features available on the new 2019 Jeep Renegade recently tested by automotive journalists at the FCA Proving Ground in Balocco, Italy. Legendary Jeep brand off-road capability comes courtesy of the advanced Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 systems that ensure benchmark performance in all conditions. Inside, the new Renegade offers fourth-generation UconnectTM with 5-inch, 7-inch or 8.4-inch displays, high-definition touchscreens, Apple CarPlay integration and Android AutoTM compatibility, ensuring customers can always be connected. State-of-the-art safety features, including Lane Sense Departure Warning-Plus, Intelligent Speed Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition come as standard on the entire range, and Forward Collision Warning-Plus with Active Emergency Braking is standard on Limited models. Engine options include a new 1-liter 120hp gasoline engine and a 1.3-liter gasoline engine available in 150hp or 180hp versions. These are complemented by a 1.6-liter 120hp turbodiesel and a 2.0-liter 140hp or 170hp turbodiesel, both featuring MultiJet II technology with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). The new gasoline engine family, produced in Poland, is developed on a modular, flexible structure and incorporates FCA’s most advanced engine technologies such as the first application of the MultiAir III, direct injection, four valves per cylinder and supercharger. The result is a family of engines offering best-in-class performance, while also being fuel-efficient and eco-friendly. All versions are fitted with a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) and designed to evolve easily for use in combination with electrical propulsion systems. While ensuring superior driving comfort, the applied technologies reduce polluting emissions in compliance with the Euro 6D emissions standard (mandatory from September 2018).

MultiAir III

The latest generation of the MultiAir further optimizes independent intake valve opening and closing. By implementing specific intake and exhaust cam profiles, low-load efficiency is improved by opening the intake valves in advance to recirculate exhaust gas, while high-load output is enhanced by delayed closing of the intake valve closing.

Development of these new turbo engines included over 75,000 hours of virtual analysis, 60,000 hours of off-vehicle testing and five million kilometres driven on- and off-road in all terrain types. The new Jeep Renegade is the first Group model to implement the innovative new MultiAir III turbo gasoline engine family, which will be introduced on other FCA models later in 2018.

The new 2019 Jeep Renegade can also be equipped with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel (120hp) or a 2.0-liter turbodiesel (140hp or 170hp). Both engines feature second-generation MultiJet technology, developed and patented by FCA Group. The 1.6-liter engine is paired with manual or DDCT dual clutch transmission. The 2.0-liter, engine is paired with a manual or nine-speed automatic transmission.

The Jeep Renegade was the first Fiat Chrysler Automobiles vehicle to be developed jointly by a team of Italian and American designers and engineers. It was also the first model in the Jeep brand’s history to be made in Italy. In short, it is the first Jeep to blend the design, functionality and off-road expertise of the American brand – synonymous with freedom, adventure and 4x4 driving for more than 75 years — with Italian style and driving dynamics. The Renegade was also the first Jeep model to be built on three continents. In addition to the Melfi Assembly Plant in Italy, it is also produced at the GAC FCA plant in Guangzhou, China, and the Jeep Assembly Plant in Pernambuco, Brazil.

With more than 73,200 units sold in 2017, Renegade was the brand’s best-selling SUV in Europe and in major markets including Italy, France, Spain, Germany and the UK. In Italy, the Renegade’s number one market in Europe, a total of 37,600 vehicles were sold in 2017 representing a 15.4% segment share. Since launch in 2014, more than 800,000 Renegades have been sold worldwide.

Sales of the 2019 Jeep Renegade begin in Italy in the second half of July. In the rest of Europe, sales of the new model will begin in September. The model will be available in four trim levels – Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk – with a new engine range featuring two new MultiAir III gasoline engines and two MultiJet II turbodiesel engines, front-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations and three transmissions (six-speed manual, DDCT or nine-speed automatic). In Russia, the Middle East and Africa, the new 2019 Renegade will be available starting from the end of this year.
