The 2019 Cherokee arrives to Latin America on the Peruvian Andes

The launch in Cusco, Peru, reaffirms the importance of the SUV market in the continent

July 13, 2018 - On the beautiful and ancient Inca mountains, in the Peruvian Andes, the new 2019 Jeep Cherokee made its debut in Latin America. The launch took place in June in the iconic city of Cusco, followed by a test drive at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters with beautiful sceneries.

Cusco, which attracts more than 2 million tourists per year, was the perfect place to host the launch of a Jeep. After all it combines nature, adventure and tradition. "Cusco is an important part of Latin America's history and has beautiful landscapes, as well as several perfect off-road stretches for our cars", says Alexandre Aquino, Jeep brand manager for Latin America.

With authentic style and a new front and rear design, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee redefines the prestigious mid-size SUV, bringing its lines to the familiar look already embodied by the Compass and Grand Cherokee brothers. "The reason for this approach is precisely an alignment of the brand's family feeling," says Aquino.

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee has gained design upgrades from the lighter hood to its new LED headlamps, fog lights and daytime running lights. At the back, the car features a new visual ensemble, with homogeneous LED signature that surrounds the position lamps, brake lights and turn signals. Much lighter, the rear cover has been redesigned, bringing higher knobs which offer greater comfort, not to mention the practical hands-free liftgate, which allows it to be opened with a simple movement of the feet underneath the bumper.

The cabin has been updated with elegance, maintaining practicality and comfort. The connectivity hub, with USB input, has been repositioned to the rear of the center console, which increases the front storage space and makes it ideal for placing cell phones and other such devices.

In addition to the new design, among the major new features of the 2019 version are the new generation of Uconnect multimedia system, which has gained touch screens with zoom function and connectivity with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. "The transmission has gained new software, the trunk is 9% larger and the car is on average 70 kg lighter, varying according to the version and configuration", details Aquino. "It's more modern and more premium", summarizes the brand manager.

Available in 6 versions (Sport, Longitude FWD, Longitude 4x4, Limited 4x4, Overland 4x4 and Trailhawk 4x4), the 2019 Jeep Cherokee arrives with greater comfort and convenience, providing the versatility of an everyday car with a surprising dynamism on the road. All of which is the result of independent suspension on all four wheels and high torsional rigidity of the body. There are two consecrated engine options: the Pentastar V6 3.2 and the MultiAir2 Tigershark 2.4. "The Cherokee stands as the most capable SUV on the market, and perfectly blends the best of both on-road and off-road worlds. It is a reference both in sophistication and luxury as well as in off-road capability", said Tania Silvestri, director of the Jeep brand in Latin America.

"The 2019 Jeep Cherokee has more than 80 safety features available, including cameras, sensors and radar. There is also the frontal collision warning system and the adaptive cruise control", reports Aquino. Another novelty in this year's model is a parallel and perpendicular parking assistance system with almost no driver intervention (semi-automatic).

Made in Belvidere, Illinois, the 2019 Cherokee, already sold in the US and Canada, arrives in Latin America starting with Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Subsequently, it will reach the other countries: Colombia, Paraguay, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Uruguay, Nicaragua and Honduras. FCA's Commercial Operations director for Latin America, Nicholas Parkes, plans to sell about 2,000 units in those countries in 2018 and 2019, contributing to Jeep's expansion strategy. "This launch is very important for Latin America. The SUV market is the fastest growing in the region and the renewal of the Jeep Cherokee brings even more attractiveness to the strengthening of the Jeep brand", says the executive.
