Sustainability

At FCA, protecting the environment is a key part of how we manage the business. Reducing the impact of our production processes is a precise commitment for which we have set objectives that place people, the environment, and the communities in which we operate as the focus of our attention.

Creating long-term value for our stakeholders means supporting research into innovative, ecological solutions, promoting social and cultural progress, and supporting a business model in which integrity and transparency are fundamental values of governance.

CERTIFICATIONS

All FCA production processes follow an Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with leading international standards. Our EMS is a set of systems and approaches that are designed to prevent or reduce the environmental impact of the Group’s production activities. In terms of managing energy consumption, FCA facilities are also equipped with an Energy Management System (EnMS) and follow the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) production standard, which is an approach that applies to all areas of the facility and seeks to eliminate waste and to increase the productivity, wellbeing, and safety of the people who work there.

The AGAP plant in Grugliasco:

  • is ISO 14001 certified for environmental management, ISO 50001 certified for energy management systems, and OHSAS 18001 certified for safety systems;
  • adopted the WCM standard since the beginning of the production in 2013.

WORLD-CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE

In order to reduce its environmental impact, the AGAP has launched a series of initiatives focused on responsibly managing issues related to energy, CO2, water, and waste:

  • The electricity used at the plant is produced by the cogeneration plant run directly by FCA. By using the hot gases from the combustion of natural gas, the plant is able to generate greater quantities of energy than a conventional system and has both financial and environmental benefits given that CO2 emissions are reduced by using methane gas as the fuel source.
  • The water used in all of the plant’s processes is drawn from the water table, thereby avoiding the use of higher value resources such as drinking water;

  • The plant has a dedicated surface area of some 2,300 m2 for the storage of waste for subsequent disposal. Numerous steps have also been taken that have enabled the plant to achieve its goal of zero waste sent to landfills. In order to further reduce waste, reusable packaging materials have also been introduced.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELLBEING

At FCA, we are committed to providing our employees with a safe and healthy workplace in every setting and in every nation in which we have facilities. Risks to health and safety are identified and assessed, and then we implement rules and standards of safety and ergonomics and encourage employees to adopt safe behavior and conduct a healthy lifestyle.

At the AGAP plant, for example, projects have been executed to promote healthy diets to improve individual wellness in accordance with related international standards, in addition to projects to help employees to quit smoking. One of the plant’s priorities is to keep its employees constantly informed on health and safety issues.

In terms of safety, in order to meet employees’ needs for mobility and make their transfers to and from work easier and more sustainable, GTT urban lines, Sadem and Cavourese extra-urban lines, and two company shuttle-bus lines have been introduced. In addition, areas to park bicycles and motorcycles are available at the plant in order to motivate people to adopt a more active lifestyle while also contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
